Anders C.  Jessen

Anders C. Jessen works at DG MARE in the European Commission as Head of Unit for Regional Fisheries Management Organizations. Since assuming this position on 16th December 2016 he has been in charge of the office in DG MARE responsible for coordinating the EU’s relations with the Regional Fisheries Management Organizations and the members of these organizations. The office is in this context responsible for the sustainable management and conservation of marine biological resources in international waters in line with the objectives of CFP and represents the EU in meetings of these bodies.

Anders C. Jessen has more than 34 years of working experience in both the public and private sectors. For more than 27 years he has worked in the European Commission, first as a legal advisor in the Legal Service, then as Head of Section in the Washington Delegation responsible for transport, energy and environment, followed by a period as Deputy Head of Unit in DG Trade in the Unit in charge of multilateral services negotiations under the DDA as well as bilateral services negotiations, and later Head of Unit for Public Procurement and Intellectual Property. His most recent job prior to his current position was as Head of Unit for WTO coordination, OECD, Export Credits and Dual-Use in DG TRADE.

Prior to joining the Commission Anders C. Jessen worked for seven years in the private sector, where he practised law with two of the leading law firms in Copenhagen, Denmark, in corporate practises with a focus on transactional work and litigation.  He has represented the Commission before the European Court of Justice, the European Court of First Instance, and the EFTA Court and he has represented the EC in different international fora such as the WTO (Council for Trade in Services (CTS) and its subsidiary bodies), the TRIPS Council, and the OECD (OECD Working Party of the Trade Committee) and in negotiations with third countries in relation to trade in services, IPR and procurement and trade facilitation. He has co-chaired the IPR Dialogues or Working Groups that the EU has set up with Brazil, China, Russia, Thailand and the USA. He was the lead negotiator for the procurement negotiations under the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and co-lead for the trade facilitation negotiations under TTIP and led the EU delegation in the International Working Group on Export Credits. In his current role he acts as the EU’s Head of Delegation to International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) and the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO).
